AeroVonics LLC was founded by Jeff Bethel who has specialized in CFR Part 23 avionic systems for over 30 years. Project and product development expertise, certification expertise in DO-178 software certification, DO-160 hardware qualification, TSO & STC compliance showing, and generation of all related planning and life-cycle artifacts.
AeroVonics developed the AV-20 two inch Multi Function Display and the AV-30 three inch Primary Flight Display. Both devices can replace the old school steam gauges in your aircraft within the same panel space but with new extended functionality not before seen. Without completely redesigning/ remanufacturing your panel!
In 2019 the company was developing the Remote Mount ADAHRS (OEM) - OEM Level Attitude Heading Reference System / Air Data Computer System.
Aerovonics has been acquired by uAvionix at the end of 2019 and their product line has been transferred.
The AV-30 is a fully digital dual-mode attitude and direction indicator that replaces the corresponding legacy vacuum driven instruments in older general aviation aircraft. Precision 3 inch performance and digital reliability for a fraction of the price.
If setup as an Attitude Indicator (AI), the AV-30 can replace the legacy stand-alone attitude indicator providing a solid-state presentation of roll, pitch and slip. And configured as a direction indicator (DG), it can replace the non-slaved directional gyro. The device is great for legacy aircraft as it preserves the original look and feel of the instrument panel.
In short: you will need two AV-30 units to replace both old style gyroscopic instruments, the weight savings (no more vacuum pump, hoses, and connectors) will be there too!
For the experimental market, the company is now shipping its AV-30-E version. It is also fully customizable with 16 functions in one package. Have a look at the AV-30 product page here.
The AV-30 will be available for certified (-C) late 2019.
The AeroVonics AV-20 and AV-20-S Multi-Function Displays provide a wide array of supplemental flight information to the pilot. It encompasses this in a small and lightweight form factor perfect for the LSA, experimental and general aviation aircraft.
This device comes in a small form factor and some of its amazing features are:
The unit incorporates a full color sunlight readable display with a bezel mounted light sensor for automatic display brightness adjustment and an internal battery for operation in the event of power loss. The AV-20-S connects to the pitot and static systems of the aircraft, while the AV-20 model does not. This unit is also available in a FAA certified version.
For those of you wishing to play at home with this device, you can download an AV-20 PC simulator from the downloads page on the AeroVonics website. AVweb published a video impression showing the products in-flight. Click the next link: AeroVonics Video
When combined with the APA-MINI AutoPilot Adapter (expected in 2020), the AV-30 can interface with legacy autopilots such as the Cessna ARC series, Century Series, Genesys Aerosystems S-TEC and Bendix King.
The company was planning to integrate a remote magnetometer in the architecture, with ARINC 429 capability and full HSI interface to a digital NAV radio. Weather and traffic display is supported but will be available in future software updates. A heading bug interface, APA-MINI, will be available in 2020.
As you can see, they are actively developing these product into a complete, modern lightweight solution for the LSA, experimental and GA market. Keep an eye on this page as we follow-up with regular updates.
