Without a method of converting the power produced by the engine into useful thrust an aircraft would just be sitting still and creating a lot of noise and not get anywhere. In the past, all kinds of different propeller designs were tried: sometimes flat wooden blades, from one bladed counter weighted to multiple blade models rotating at various speeds.
Variable pitch propellers have a distinct advantage compared to fixed pitch models. This translates into a more fuel efficient, higher performing aircraft with much improved rate of climb and shorter takeoffs for those tight places!
Founded in 1990, Helix-Carbon is specialized in designing and manufacturing carbon composite propellers for a wide range of applications. Their propellers are innovatively designed based on 27 years experience and extensive flight tests, they manufacture propellers for aircraft with engine power up to 200 kW.
The company has been in the propeller production market since the 1990's of the last century and as such has build a well known reputation of producing fine propellers resulting in EASA certification for their design center and production facilities.
The bulk of their production volume is for aircraft, paramotors and multi-copters. For paramotors Helix offers fixed pitch and ground adjustable models capable up to 110 kW. For aircraft the company has fixed pitch, ground adjustable and in-flight controllable propellers.
Helix propellers are innovatively designed and are made with strengthened carbon composite materials which offer ideal properties for propeller construction. Some of the special features of a Helix propeller are: high strength, low weight, extremely robust with excellent efficiency in a wide speed range combined with low noise. Helix is recognized as an indisputable worldwide market leader in this industry.
To get the best engine performance under varying situations of aircraft altitude, airspeed, phases of flight and engine power, the Helix H60A constant speed propeller is the best option for engine power up to 135 kW.
In all flight conditions the propeller pitch is automatically adjusted to the designated engine speed, which allows beside the availability of maximum engine power also to achieve continuously smooth cruising flight speed with medium power setting. The combination of best climbing and fast flight setting capability makes it the optimal propeller for any aircraft.
Helix also developed an electronic controlled actuator system which is easier to operate and maintain at much lower price than other constant speed propellers in this competitive market. The adjusting mechanics are deployed in line with the propeller axis with all forces transmitted by rotating instead of sliding elements. This system precludes the need for high forces and allows direct and fast blade changes with wide movements and low forces on propeller blade thus ensuring long product life.
Helix uses a own design for the connection of blade root and hub in the form of an innovative strong bearing system. It is self adjusting and stabilizing regarding age and wear. This increases the time between overhaul of the propeller assembly.
Propellers are available for any type of engine (UL, LSA, experimental market) with differentiation in fast flight, all around cruising, low noise and short takeoff and fast climb purposes.
For any aircraft performance is increased by choosing the largest diameter possible for the propeller, taking into account ground clearance, engine power and such. More blades are usually possible if the engine has the power to take the added drag of the third blade.
For proper handling and maintenance of the propeller, Helix has handbooks available for download at their website.
